As winter gathers in around me,

I feel as if I’m choking

On the damp, dark cloth of a November sky,

My whole being can just about proffer

An involuntary sigh that blends unnoticed

With stiffening breeze of darker nights

No longer even the comforting glow

Of the coal fire

No longer the family huddle

No more the verbal familial cuddle,

All is changed

As winter gathers in around me

The winter of a new age

Dark, damp, damp, dark cloth

Of a November sky

Grips my very being

And scrapes at my existence.
